Renovate - to reinvigorate; refresh; revive.

Hello Bob,

I'm not happy with the results I'm getting from my website. I have an established business with satisfied customers, testimonials, plenty of work samples, yet I'm getting almost no business through the site. I should be able to conduct business from anywhere on the planet. I want business to come to me through my website so I can stay fully employed while I go wherever I want...

So, I need

  1. more traffic
  2. better qualified traffic
  3. higher rates of conversion.

"Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs"

That's what my buddy called me when I told him what I planned to do.

Not because of the renovation I'm planning. I need to refocus Bolen's target market. I need to rework my keywords and my SEO/SEM tactics. I need to develop content that will answer every question and objection. I need to reconfigure the website architecture and navigation to lead prospects to the right content at the right time in their buy cycles.

He called me "Cuckoo" because I'm going to do all the above in plain sight of anyone who cares to look.

Why? It's a LOT of work I'll have to do on top of running a business, and all the other stuff I need to do. Knowing that people are watching will keep me motivated. And because it's a way to show people how all these different facets of business and online marketing are interrelated. Various vendors have offered to help me "tweak keywords" or "rewrite PPC ads". Those things might result in a temporary boost. Or worse, might drive "significant increases" in inappropriate, unqualified, unprofitable traffic.

Much like when you renovate a building, you have to start with the fundamentals. How's the foundation? Are the walls plumb? Any leaks in the roof? You need to step back and take in the whole picture.

Here's my scheme:

  1. Build a high level step-by-step plan of action.
  2. Fill in the gaps in the plan along the way.
  3. Spend one hour every weekday executing the plan.
  4. Document what I did each day on my blog.
  5. Invite appropriate pros to guest blog.
  6. Post my website analytics every Saturday.

If I do things right, in about three months I should have plenty of high quality business. And if I do things wrong, the analytics and my pro bloggers will tell me what I did wrong and what I can do to fix it.

Please stop by
my blog every now and then. You'll see what I've done, what's working and what's not, and you'll read the advice I'm getting from the experts.

See you around,

Bob Leonard
